Legend of Zelda Live-Action Movie Cast Major DC & Alien Star as Fan-Favorite Villain

The upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie has reportedly found its main antagonist. Based on Nintendo’s famous video game franchise of the same name, the adaptation also stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragson.

According to Deadline, Australian actor Uli Latukefu has been locked in as the franchise’s iconic villain, Ganondorf. He is a ruthless warlock king who seeks to conquer Hyrule, the home of Link (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) and Princess Zelda (Bo Bragson). Latukefu’s role marks the first major addition to the cast since Nintendo announced the movie’s lead actors.

Ganondorf is one of Nintendo’s most powerful and resilient villains. The character has featured in multiple games in the franchise as the main villain. He is the major enemy of the heroic swordsman Link and Princess Zelda.

Latukefu is best known for playing the younger version of Dwayne Johnson in NBC’s Young Rock. The actor has also appeared alongside Dwayne in DC’s Black Adam and worked in Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant.

What else do we know about the live-action Legend of Zelda movie?

Sony first announced the film in 2023, partnering with Nintendo to co-fund it. Wes Ball, best known for directing The Maze Runner trilogy and the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is helming the movie. T.S. Nowlin has written the screenplay while Shigeru Miyamoto, Avi Arad, Wes Ball and Joe Hartwick Jr. are serving as producers.

With Latukefu’s casting, the movie now has its three main characters in place. As mentioned above, Ainsworth will portray Link, while Bragason will play Princess Zelda. However, Sony and Nintendo have not shared any other casting details.

Following the box office success of video game adaptations like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and A Minecraft Movie, fans have high expectations for Sony and Nintendo’s take on the upcoming live-action adaptation.

Legend of Zelda is set to release in theaters on April 30, 2027, distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing.
