‘Bit of Slack’: Super Troopers 3 Team on Why Movie’s Politically Incorrect Jokes Still Work

Super Troopers 3 will continue the hilarious adventures of its team, though some of its jokes may offend modern audiences. However, the team behind the film is standing its ground and has defended why some of its “politically incorrect” humor still works.

In an interview with The Direct, Kevin Heffernan, who plays Farva, explained the thought process behind the film’s jokes.

“I think if you have a good-natured group of people, I think you can push it farther than you think,” he said. “There’s a lot of mean-spirited stuff out there in the world, and I think that’s the stuff that gets lit up first.”

Heffernan added that the cast being friends with each other helps alleviate the tension around potentially offensive comedy.

“But if you’re a good group of guys having fun, I think you get a little bit of slack. So that’s what we try to do, we try to make it feel like we’re friends in real life. We’ve been together since we were 18 years old, and it’s like, let’s make a group of friends that you want to come hang out with.”

What is Super Troopers 3 about?

Super Troopers 3 will center around Farva’s impending wedding to Thorny’s sister, Sarita. What follows is a comedy of errors between Farva’s offensive advances and Thorny trying to stop the wedding. At the same time, the Super Troopers try to apprehend a new drug ring.

The upcoming sequel is once again directed by Broken Lizard member Jay Chandrasekhar, who also plays Lieutenant Arcot “Thorny” Ramathorn. Besides him and Heffernan, the film stars Paul Soter, Steve Lemme, Erik Stolhanske, and Brian Cox.

The Super Troopers franchise started in 2001, with its sequel being partly crowdfunded. While the first film wasn’t a box office success, it cultivated a passionate fan following. The sequel, released in 2018, grossed over $32 million at the box office.

Super Troopers 3 will hit the theaters on August 7, 2026.
