Shawn Levy’s Netflix Movie Is Far Steamier Than Anything Ghost Rider Director Has Made Yet

Shawn Levy is set to produce an upcoming feature adaptation of Deep End, the popular romance novel by The Love Hypothesis author Ali Hazelwood. The announcement comes just a week after Marvel Studios confirmed that Levy will direct a standalone Ghost Rider movie starring Ryan Gosling.

According to a recent report by Deadline, the upcoming adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s Deep End has landed at Netflix. The novel follows the passionate romance between a competitive diver and an ace swimmer.

This will mark Levy’s first foray into steamy romance movies as a producer. The filmmaker has previously directed and produced comedies such as Free Guy, The Adam Project, Deadpool & Wolverine, and more. Levy has also served as a producer in the Academy Award-winning sci-fi drama, Arrival.

Who else is involved in Shawn Levy’s new Netflix movie?

Dan Levine joins Shawn Levy to produce the Netflix film, via 21 Laps, alongside Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan from Unwell Productions.

Author Ali Hazelwood herself will serve as the project’s executive producer alongside Matthew Janzen for Unwell Productions. Meanwhile, Emily Morris and Emily Feher will oversee the production for 21 Laps. Casting details for the main roles have not yet been disclosed.

Deep End is the second novel by Ali Hazelwood to land a feature film adaptation. Her 2021 romantic comedy novel The Love Hypothesis will soon make its streaming debut on Prime Video on September 23.

That movie stars Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman in the lead roles, alongside Rachel Marsh, Jaboukie Young-White, Nicholas Duvernay, and Arty Froushan.

Meanwhile, Deep End producer Shawn Levy is set to direct Marvel’s new Ghost Rider. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that Ryan Gosling will play the titular superhero at San Diego Comic Con last month. Star Wars: Starfighter screenwriter Jonathan Tropper will pen the script. The movie is slated for a 2028 release.
