X-Men: Margot Robbie’s Emma Frost MCU Casting Was Never Going to Happen, Here’s Why
Margot Robbie was never seriously in contention to play Emma Frost in Marvel‘s X-Men reboot. Previously, the Barbie star was rumored to be in the running to play the mutant who can transform into organic diamond. However, recent reports claim that Samara Weaving has been cast in the role.
Despite the earlier rumors, a source said Robbie was never seriously considered for the role. A Deadline reporter confirmed Weaving’s casting and posted on X, “Auditions for X-Men has been going on since May and the Frost part is the search that has been the most thorough. That said they were always looking to audition this part like all the others so someone like Margot was never a reality since she no longer test for roles.”
Besides the Barbie star, other actresses rumored for the role included Sydney Sweeney and Rebecca Ferguson. If Weaving’s casting is finalized, more casting news about Jake Schreier’s film can be expected soon. X-Men: Reboot is slated to release on May 5, 2028.

Although the Australian actress won’t be making her Marvel debut anytime soon, she is already part of the former DC Extended Universe. Robbie played Harley Quinn in the 2016 movie Suicide Squad. She reprised this role in 2020’s Birds of Prey and again in 2021’s The Suicide Squad.
Since James Gunn previously confirmed that the new DCU has a 10-year slate, she could return to play the character in an upcoming project. Previously, Gunn teased that Harley Quinn could return, saying, “That will be revealed down the line.”
Moreover, Robbie had previously stated that she “fell in love” with her character during Birds of Prey. She researched the character while also listening to TED talks of women with schizophrenia to prepare for the role. She also called the character “unpredictable” by nature, calling it a “gift” to actors.
The Birds of Prey’s protagonist could appear in The Batman II, which is currently in production. This movie is slated to release on February 18, 2028.
