Tom Holland Reveals the Wild Spider-Man Idea Marvel Thought Was Too Scary

Tom Holland has never shied away from pitching bold ideas for Spider-Man films. The actor has become more involved in shaping Peter Parker’s MCU journey over the years. He often brings his own concepts into the writer’s room. While some of his ideas made it out, some were vetoed by Marvel.

In Josh Horowitz’s recent interview, Holland opened up about an early creative pitch, which he jokingly called “spider puberty.” While the idea was to explore Peter Parker’s growth as a superhero, it quickly evolved into something darker than what Marvel had hoped.

The British actor explained that he wanted to explore how Spider-Man’s powers develop over time from a young kid to an adult. “I basically just put on the table, like, what happens if Spider-Man starts developing all of these new powers? He’s getting stronger, he’s getting faster, and his senses are becoming too powerful,” Holland said. The ideas only became stranger from there.

“At one point I was like, ‘What if he had, like, fangs that come out… and he had, like, venom spikes?” Holland recalled before quickly adding, “That is not in the movie [Brand New Day], don’t worry.”

He also revealed the team discussed some nightmare scenes, but those didn’t last long. Marvel felt those images would be far too disturbing for a movie meant for kids and adults. “We do want children to enjoy this movie as well as adults. This is a little bit too creepy,” the actor added.

Tom Holland is already thinking about Spider-Man’s successor

Even though Holland’s ideas never made the cut, the actor appreciated being part of the creative process and exploring different possibilities.

In the same interview, the Spider-Man star revealed that Marvel has been discussing how Peter Parker’s story should eventually end and who could take over the mantle. For Holland, setting up the next friendly neighborhood masked hero before he moves on is one of the goals he cares about most.

While Marvel Studios has not officially announced a live-action Miles Morales, Holland’s comments suggest those conversations have already begun behind the scenes.
