Bale will play Vincent Hanna, the grizzled LAPD detective that Al Pacino portrayed in Heat.

Casting is still underway for the other parts. Stephen Graham is in talks to play Neil McCauley, the role Robert De Niro once portrayed. Meanwhile, Adam Driver is being sought to play the villain.

Michael Mann will direct Heat 2, based on the 2022 novel of the same name that he co-wrote with Meg Gardiner. The book is a prequel and sequel focusing on Chris’ exploits working for a powerful crime family. Amazon MGM Studios will distribute the movie.
