Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Exit Plan Is Already Taking Shape

Tom Holland has spent nearly a decade as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While fans are about to witness the latest Spider-Man outing, Holland has already mapped out what comes next. Speaking in a recent interview, the Marvel star opened up about the future of the superhero and revealed that the creative team has been discussing a long-term plan for passing the iconic role to someone new.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz, when asked if there was a Spider-Man concept that sounded good at the time but never went anywhere, Holland laughed and admitted there had been a few “rogue ones.” He added, “I’m sure there are some terrible ideas that I’ve pitched over the years.”

Going ahead, the host asked if the actor would know when it is time to “pass the baton” to Miles Morales. Holland revealed that the conversation has been going on since Spider-Man: No Way Home. He said, “Oh yeah, there’s a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

The 30-year-old added, “It’s going to change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting.” Holland said that helping introduce the next Spider-Man is one of his biggest goals. “That is the thing that I want to do most in this character.”

The star also welcomed the idea of multiple Spider-Men sharing the screen. When asked if there was room for Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, his Spider-Man, and Miles Morales to exist together, Holland said, “Of course I do. Are you kidding?… I think there’s room for it, of course there’s room for it.”

Tom Holland first appeared as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War in 2016, followed by his solo featured film in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. Spider-Man: Homecoming introduced Holland’s younger Peter Parker to the MCU, while Spider-Man: Far From Home became Sony Pictures’ first movie to earn more than $1 billion worldwide.

The actor made yet another comeback with Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, which reunited three generations of Spider-Man and became one of the highest-grossing superhero movies ever made. His next film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is also primed to become Sony’s biggest opening weekend, with estimates ranging from $450 million to $550 million.

However, Marvel has yet to make an official announcement of a live-action Miles Morales project. Holland’s latest comments suggest the idea is already part of a long-term vision for the franchise.
