Spider-Man: Brand New Day Reviews Reveal Why This Is Only the Start of MCU’s Next Chapter

Spider-Man: Brand New Day conducted an early screening with positive reviews. Many who watched the Marvel movie before its official theatrical release said this is only the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s new chapter.

In the previous Tom Holland-led movies, the audience saw him portray Peter Parker as a teenager surrounded by enemies but also friends he could rely on. However, in the new movie, the web-slinger portrays a “mature Parker” as he stands alone in a world that has forgotten his existence. He must face adversaries, including a new villain, while battling this isolation.

Critics say this mature version of the superhero and storyline takes a new turn for Spider-Man’s story.

Reviews have been pouring in on X, with users like @blewis1103 and @dbapz praising the director, Destin Daniel Cretton. They have also called this one of Holland’s “most varied, confident MCU work” and “best outing yet.”

Not only critics, but the cast and crew members, feel that this upcoming movie is the start of something new for the Spider-Man character and the MCU.

Spider-Man 4’s title is called Brand New Day because “It is a Brand New Day after all,” according to Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Holland added, “I think the truth is that this is the beginning of a new…thing.”

Amy Pascal, the producer of the previous movies, also commented on the new beginning for the web-slinger in the MCU. “It’s about wanting to be anybody else but who you are, and it’s about the desire to fit in and to not be different and to learn to understand that being different is okay — and maybe great. We definitely don’t see [Spider-Man: Brand New Day] as a closing… It’s a beginning.”

What comes next for the MCU after Spider-Man 4?

In the MCU, the next movie slated to release is Avengers: Doomsday. The web-slinger’s presence in the upcoming movie has not been revealed. However, it brings together three worlds from the multiverse. Depending on the events of the new movies, his existence in Doomsday can be predicted.

Moreover, Kevin Feige teased that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker may have to serve as a mentor to Miles Morales in future movies. He stated, “You can’t think about the future of Spider-Man and not think about Miles, for sure. Mainly I’m thinking about enjoying Beyond the Spider-Verse and Amy’s next movie. After that, it’ll be very interesting to see where Spider-Man should go.”

Spider-Man 4 will be out in theaters this Friday. Avengers: Doomsday will release on December 18, 2026. This will be followed by Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, slated to release on June 18, 2027.
