Dave Franco, Peter Dinklage, & More A-List Actors Are Idiots in Hilarious Trailer

A new Idiots trailer shows Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. getting up to hilarious hijinks. The film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival to mostly positive reviews and will be brought to theaters later this year.

What do we see in the Idiots trailer?

The trailer starts with Franco and Jackson Jr. on the road, with Mason Thames’ character interrupted by a gang of thugs. The gang is led by Peter Dinklage, who appears nearly unrecognizable from his Tyrion Lannister look. The duo is driving Thames’ character, a spoiled rich teenager who likes doing drugs, to a rehab center. Along the way, they face multiple challenges, mostly from the trouble that the kid brings their way. The footage also gives fans a glimpse of Kiernan Shipka and Nicholas Braun’s characters.

“The big spectacle of the movie is the ensemble: it’s a pile-up of dynamite actors going full tilt through broad slapstick comedy, chase movie shenanigans, nasty human darkness and ultimately a hopeful friendship story,” said Macon Blair, director of Idiots. “From the on-fire leads to the scene-stealing cameos, it was a plain delight to watch every single one of these folks work at being Idiots.”

Idiots, previously titled The Shitheads, is written, directed, and produced by Macon Blair. The film is produced by Franco, Blair, Ford Corbett, Mark Fasano, Joshua Harris, Brandon James, Nathan Klingher, and Alex Orr. Jatin Desai, Greg Friedman, Jackson, Jodie Hill, David Gendron, David Gordon Green, Ali Jazayeri, Thomas Mann, Danny McBride, and Jeremy Saulnier serve as executive producers. It currently holds a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 28 reviews. Critics have praised the film’s raunchy humor, calling it a throwback to 2000s-era comedies.

Idiots releases in theaters on August 28, 2026.
