Tom Holland received the casting call for Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey before Zendaya did. The upcoming epic adventure also features Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, among others.
Tom Holland and Zendaya’s The Odyssey casting story
During a recent promotional interview for The Odyssey, Zendaya revealed that it was actually Tom Holland who received the casting call before her for Nolan’s movie. When she learned that he had landed the role, she couldn’t contain her excitement.
“Yeah, I mean I couldn’t have asked for a better phone call. I must say it’s like you know hearing that Tom got, you know when, I remember when he first got the phone call and I was like over the moon, so excited. I was like, ‘You have to do this. We’ve got to figure out the schedule. This is going to get done.'”
The icing on the cake was the news of her selection, too, for The Odyssey. Holland was the first one to share the update with her. “And then he was able to come home and ask, you know tell me, ‘Hey! You got a meeting with Mr. to Nolan as well.’ That was so special. I couldn’t have imagined it getting any better.”
Besides The Odyssey, Zendaya and Holland will also appear together in another highly anticipated movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It is scheduled to release just days after Nolan’s epic later this month. Holland will be seen reprising his iconic and fan-favorite role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man while Zendaya will be back as MJ. The MCU movie is helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
In The Odyssey, Zendaya plays the role of Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Holland will appear as Telemachus, son of Odysseus, played by Matt Damon.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey releases in theaters on July 17, 2026.
