The Odyssey Just Broke a Record Christopher Nolan Hasn’t Achieved Since The Dark Knight
Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey has broken a record not seen since The Dark Knight. This milestone doesn’t take place behind the scenes and is celebrated among cast and crew.
What record did The Odyssey just break?
The Odyssey cast consists of some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Samantha Morton. Thanks to her, Nolan’s upcoming movie broke a record ahead of its theatrical release.
It was broken right after Morton finished filming on set. Her performance as Circe received a standing ovation from the cast and crew. This record was previously broken by Nolan’s The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger’s performance.
In an interview for the Empire August magazine, producer Emma Thomas revealed, “When she finished her scene, she got a round of applause from the cast and crew. That’s something we hadn’t seen since Heath Ledger on The Dark Knight.”
Morton is best known for Hattie in Sweet and Lowdown, Alpha in The Walking Dead, Mary Lou in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Agatha in Minority Report. Other acting credits include Anemone, The Whale, 2073, The Serpent Queen, The Burning Girls, She Said, Harlots, and Elizabeth: The Golden Age. She holds two BAFTA awards and has also been a two-time Academy Award nominee.

This movie is Nolan’s first feature film shot entirely with an IMAX camera, another milestone the director met ahead of the film’s theatrical release. The Odyssey is the story of the King of Ithaca, Odysseus’ journey back home after the Trojan War. He faces giants, Cyclops, and Gods to get back home. While Ithaca’s queen faces her own struggles to keep potential suitors away from the throne, as shown in the recently released countdown trailer.
Other cast members include Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, and Benny Safdie. Executive producers include Thomas Hayslip, while line producers include Zakaria Alaoui, Hjortur Gretarsson, Erik Paoletti, and Kostas Raftopoulos. The upcoming epic is scheduled to be released worldwide on July 17, 2026.
