4 Iconic Shark Movies Bite Onto Peacock Today, Including Jaws
Four shark movies from Universal Pictures have officially been added to Peacock‘s expanding collection. These films currently have a combined gross of more than $845 million worldwide.
What are the shark movies now available on Peacock?
Starting today, 1975’s Jaws, 1978’s Jaws 2, 1983’s Jaws 3-D, and 1987’s Jaws: The Revenge are now available to stream on Peacock. The franchise was based on the 1974 novel of the same name by Peter Benchley. The iconic first installment was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg, with Benchley and Carl Gottlieb writing the screenplay. It won three major Academy Awards out of four nominations, including Best Original Score for John Williams, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound. More than five decades have passed since its debut, and the film still maintains a near-perfect 97% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Jaws franchise starred Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gray, Murray Hamilton, Dennis Quaid, Lance Guest, Fritzi Jane Courtney, Louis Gossett Jr., Lea Thompson, Michael Caine, Lynn Whitfield, and more. After Spielberg, the next three sequels were helmed by different directors, including Jeannot Szwarc, Joe Alves, and Joseph Sargent, respectively. None of the sequels managed to live up to the first installment’s critical and commercial success.
“When the seaside community of Amity finds itself under attack by a dangerous great white shark, the town’s chief of police, a young marine biologist and a grizzled shark hunter embark on a desperate quest to destroy the beast before it strikes again,” reads the official synopsis. “Featuring an unforgettable score that evokes pure terror, five decades later, Universal Pictures’ Jaws remains one of the most influential and gripping adventures in motion picture history.”
