Backrooms Returning to Theaters With New Title & Tons of Extra Footage, Release Date Set

Backrooms is returning to theaters. Kane Parsons’ directorial debut became one of 2026’s biggest surprises when it was released in late May.

What is the update about Backrooms’ return to theaters?

Backrooms is coming back to theaters to scare fans with a new title, over a dozen minutes of new footage early in July (via Variety). The new version, titled Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition, as listed on AMC’s website, will be released on July 3, 2026. The second version of Backrooms will include 15 minutes of bonus footage, extending its runtime to 2 hours and 6 minutes.

When Backrooms returns to theaters, it will compete with Minions & Monsters and Toy Story 5’s third weekend. While the new Minions sequel will attract families, A24 has smartly positioned itself to capitalize on the lack of competition with R-rated horror offerings. AMC has listed the film as having a “theatrically exclusive post-credit”.

At the time of writing, Backrooms has grossed over $330 million worldwide, making it A24’s biggest hit yet, as unexpected as it was. The film continues to perform strongly at the box office, grossing over $1 million on average per day at the time of writing.
