The first behind-the-scenes images from Disney’s live-action Tangled have given fans a glimpse of one of the movie’s most recognizable locations. Production has officially begun at Ciudad de la Luz Studios in Alicante, Spain, where Rapunzel’s tower is being built for filming. Juanfran Perez Llorca, president of the Generalitat Valenciana, confirmed the studio complex will serve as the project’s main production hub after months of planning (via Screenrant).

A separate thread shared on X (formerly Twitter) also showed the famous tower under construction with large cranes putting it in place. The images hint that Disney is building a real practical set instead of relying entirely on computer-generated visuals.

The remake stars Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, while Kathryn Hahn will portray Mother Gothel. Andor actor Diego Luna has also joined the cast in a mystery role created specifically for the live-action version.

Michael Gracey, best known for The Greatest Showman, is directing from a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Disney is expected to retain the musical spirit of the original while introducing a few fresh elements to the story.

The original Tangled premiered in November 2010 and became one of Disney Animation’s biggest modern successes. Directed by Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, the film earned more than $590 million worldwide on an estimated $260 million budget.

Featuring the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, it received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for I See the Light. Even today, the movie remains one of Disney+’s most-watched animated titles. It holds an 88% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and an IMDb rating of 7.7/10.
