‘I Was S—’: House of the Dragon Actress Recalls Failing Major Star Wars Audition
A House of the Dragon star recently reflected on auditioning for a major Star Wars film. Although she was previously linked to a secondary protagonist role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the actress recalled going in to audition for a much bigger role.
House of the Dragon’s Olivia Cooke remembers Star Wars’ Rey audition
During an interview with Josh Horowitz, House of the Dragon star Olivia Cooke recalled her auditioning experience for Star Wars. Horowitz brought up the topic, asking the actress whether she had ever auditioned for the role of Rose Tico, now played by Kelly Marie Tran in The Last Jedi and The Rise of the Skywalker.
Cooke said she doesn’t think she ever actually auditioned for that film and believes the story was probably just a rumor. She speculated that maybe an agent might’ve started it in the hope of making some money.
However, the Ready Player One actress did recall that she auditioned for Rey, a role that landed with Daisy Ridley. She said she auditioned for the part at least twice: once in Los Angeles and once with The Force Awakens’ director, J. J. Abrams.
“I was s—. I was really bad,” the actress reflected on her performance. “You know when you go into an audition, and you’re just not bringing it. You’ve let yourself and everyone down in the room. Daisy did such an amazing job. I just wasn’t that kind of an actor at that time. You know, it wasn’t a fit.”
While the auditions didn’t work out for Cooke, she later landed a major role in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One as Art3mis/Samantha. She has also appeared in Bates Motel, Sound of Metal, Vanity Fair, Slow Horses, and, most recently, the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon.
House of the Dragon Season 3 premiered earlier this week. The first episode is available to stream on HBO Max right now.
