New DC Batman Movie Gets First Footage Reveal, Teases Major Robin Role

Batman fans just got a major update on a highly anticipated DC film about the Caped Crusader. DC has given a select group of fans a new look at an upcoming Batman movie.

What is the update on the new DC Batman movie?

The first footage of Dynamic Duo, a new DC animated movie about Batman, Dick Grayson, and Jason Todd, was shown at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. According to the footage seen by The Wrap, the film will be told from the perspective of the teenage duo as friends before each is pulled in a different direction by influential figures in Gotham. Dick Grayson follows in Batman’s footsteps while Todd falls under the influence of the villainous Red Hood gang. According to DiscussingFilm, Batman’s look in the film is inspired by the Absolute Batman comics.

The Wrap adds that Todd assumes the identity of the Red Hood at one point. One shot shows Todd looking at his own reflection on the Red Hood helmet, but Grayson sees something else when he takes a peek at it. However, this idea has been described as a “test shot”, so the finished film might feature a variation of it. The report compares the film to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, calling Swaybox’s scale and ambition for Gotham and its citizens “truly unstoppable”.

Set outside the DCU continuity, the film uses Swaybox’s “TiNK” facial animation system, which combines CGI animation, live-action real-time performance, and stop-motion. The film was announced in 2024, with Swaybox founder and co-CEO Arthur Mintz directing. Dynamic Duo is written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. It’s a collaboration between Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho, DC Studios, and Swaybox Studios.

Dynamic Duo will be released sometime in 2028.
