Toy Story 6: Pixar Director Strongly Teases the Franchise’s Future

Toy Story 5‘s record-breaking box office debut has surely made Toy Story 6 inevitable. Following the massive opening weekend of the latest installment in the blockbuster kid-friendly series, the director has now teased the future.

What did Andrew Stanton say about Toy Story 6 and the future of the franchise?

Toy Story 5 has received widespread praise since its theatrical release last week. Apart from being a box office juggernaut, it has impressed critics and moviegoers, too. Currently, it holds a stellar Tomatometer score of 94% and a staggering Popcornmeter score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

While the latest entry is wooing everyone, director Andrew Stanton has now potentially hinted at the upcoming installments in the franchise. Seems like Toy Story 6 might be the next movie in the series. When asked about the future of the Toy Story franchise over the next three decades, Stanton initially refused to give any details. “Can’t tell you that.”

However, he then teased what fans can expect from upcoming movies if they are greenlit. “I would want it to be honest like it has been and follow the lives of the kids. That’s, I think, what really made that feel like a closed in a perfect trilogy for Andy. And hopefully we’ll do the same, if it keeps going, for Bonnie and whoever else comes into their lives.”

Stanton was joined by Toy Story 5 producer Lindsey Collins, who added, “I think that’s what’s made it work, is that it feels like it’s always kind of being honest to what’s going on in the world, in the lives of kids, in whatever era we’re in. And that’s what’s been fun to kind of follow over the years.”

It seems likely that Disney and Pixar will confirm Toy Story 6 sooner rather than later, given the ongoing box office performance of Toy Story 5. Made on a budget of $250 million, it delivered the biggest domestic opening weekend in franchise history, earning $160 million.

Globally, the film opened with a stupendous $312 million. With that, it also registered the second-best worldwide debut ever for a Pixar movie. Only Inside Out 2 performed better than Toy Story 5, with a global opening of $384 million two years ago.

Toy Story 5 is now playing in theaters.
