Citizen Vigilante Director Would Love to Cast Kevin Spacey, Explains Why ‘He Should Come Back’

Uwe Boll has already given Armie Hammer his first big break after the legal disputes that stalled the latter’s career, and the Citizen Vigilante director seemingly wants to do the same with Kevin Spacey. In a recent interview, the German filmmaker explained how keen he is on working with actors who have fallen out of favor in the industry. Although his latest movie with Hammer is itself embroiled in controversy, having been banned in Germany, Boll believes that the House of Cards star deserves to “get another shot.”

Uwe Boll reveals he wants to work with Kevin Spacey after Armie Hammer

The 61-year-old director recently noted that even though he wants to recruit the Academy Award winner for a role in one of his future projects, it would ultimately backfire on him.

“Take Kevin Spacey, for instance,” Uwe Boll said while speaking with The Telegraph. “One of the best actors working today. I’d love to cast him in a strong male lead in one of my pictures, but by doing so, I can guarantee that the film would not get an American distributor. To me, that’s unfair. He won all the lawsuits and legal cases, and now he’s stuck in these very cheap exotic movies he’s making now. I think he should come back and get another shot.”

Featuring Armie Hammer in his first lead role since 2022’s Death on the Nile, Boll’s latest movie, Citizen Vigilante, has effectively been banned in Germany. The country’s FSK ratings board has refused to allot any classification to the movie. This makes its distribution in Germany impossible.

Nevertheless, Boll has no regrets about casting Hammer in the film. “I cast Armie Hammer in the lead because he’s a great actor, and also because he was cancelled and wanted to work,” the filmmaker remarked. “He wasn’t charged with anything, there was no lawsuit. He was just a guy who was famous and f—— around. He’s a handsome, charismatic guy, who could be James Bond.”

The much-discussed Armie Hammer movie premiered in select theaters as well as on the digital front on June 19.
