James Gunn’s Wonder Woman & Supergirl Post Sparks Team up Movie Speculation

James Gunn recently shared a new story on Instagram featuring Wonder Woman and Supergirl. Consequently, fans speculated whether he was teasing a team-up movie, among other things.

James Gunn shares new Wonder Woman and Supergirl story

Gunn recently reshared a post from Tom Taylor on his Instagram stories. It promotes an upcoming comic, Dark Knights of Steel II, the sequel to Taylor and Yasmine Putri’s 12-issue Dark Knights of Steel, published between November 2021 and August 2023.

Although Gunn was clearly promoting an upcoming comic series, fans viewed the story as him teasing the DCU’s plan for Wonder Woman. One thought he was hinting at a potential team-up movie between her and Supergirl. He wrote, “HOLY F—ING S–T! James Gunn Teasing Wonder Woman AND Supergirl? THIS WOULD BE PEAK TO SEE ON SCREEN!”

Meanwhile, another speculated that it suggested that the Amazonian superheroine is appearing in the latter’s movie, releasing later this week. They asked, “Wonder Woman to appear in Supergirl?”

Yet another thought that Gunn’s story indirectly hinted at the DCU Wonder Woman movie’s script’s completion. They wondered, “Could this mean the Wonder Woman script is almost complete?” Furthermore, one claimed, “He’s hinting at WW and hyping up Supergirl. Plus maybe they are both in Man Of Tomorrow.”

Supergirl flies into theaters this Friday, June 26. That film’s writer, Ana Nogueira, is currently developing Wonder Woman’s screenplay.

Meanwhile, Dark Knights of Steel II #1 hits store shelves on July 15, 2026. Consisting of 40 pages, it will retail for $4.99, with cardstock variants priced at $5.99. Taylor wrote it while Otto Schmidt illustrated it, with Arif Prianto and Wes Abbott providing the colors and letters, respectively. Putri designed the main cover, while Travis Moore, Tamra Bonvillain, Davide Paratore, and Joshua Middleton created variant covers. In addition, Middleton also made a foil variant cover.

The story is set in an alternate universe shaped by four kingdoms. Queen Lara leads the House of El, which includes her children, Prince Kal-El and Princess Zala. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne of House of Wayne serves the Els as their sworn protector. Queen Anissa heads the Kingdom of Storms with John Constantine by her side as counsel. Finally, Queen Hippolyta and Princess Diana lead the warriors of Amazonia.
