3 Planet of the Apes Movies Are Heading to Hulu Very Soon
Three Planet of the Apes movies are scheduled to be added to Hulu’s library soon. The list includes a standalone remake from 2001 and two entries from the modern reboot starring Andy Serkis.
Three Planet of the Apes movies will start streaming on Hulu in July
Planet of the Apes (2001), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) will begin streaming on Hulu starting Wednesday, July 1, 2026, per the streamer’s schedule.
The franchise is based on French author Pierre Boulle’s 1963 novel, La Planète des singes. It was originally adapted into a film in 1968, which was both a critical and commercial success. The movie was followed by four more sequels.
Then came the remake in 2001. Tim Burton directed the movie with a cast that included Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Paul Giamatti, and Michael Clarke Duncan, among others. Despite the big names attached to it, the Planet of the Apes remake failed to earn respectable ratings from critics and audiences.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has a 42% critics’ approval rating and a 27% user rating. However, at the box office, it made approximately $362.2 million worldwide against a $100 million budget.
Fox returned to the franchise a decade later with Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011. It received critical acclaim and performed extremely well at the box office. Made on a reported $93 million budget, it went on to earn $481.8 million globally.
Meanwhile, Rotten Tomatoes reports an 82% score from critics and a 77% score from users. The viewers especially praised Andy Serkis’ performance, who lent his voice and did the motion capture for Ceaser, the eventual leader of the apes.
Its sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, followed in 2014 and became a bigger success. It grossed roughly $710 million on a $170 million budget. The critics rated it 91%, and users gave it 88% on the review aggregator site. Furthermore, both the 2011 and 2014 movies received Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects.
The franchise continued to grow with two more sequels: War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017 and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in 2024.
