Hugh Jackman Admits Surprising Treasure Island Confession Before Ridley Scott Movie

Hugh Jackman makes a surprising confession ahead of filming Ridley Scott‘s Treasure Island. The upcoming film is based on a classic 1883 novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.

What is Hugh Jackman’s surprising Treasure Island confession?

Over the years, there have been multiple adaptations of Louis Stevenson’s novel, Treasure Island, as films, TV shows, plays, video games, and more. It appears Hugh Jackman had no prior knowledge of the story before signing on for Ridley Scott’s upcoming adaptation.

Speaking with Collider, Jackman revealed that he has never read the novel or seen the old Treasure Island projects. “And yeah, I got the script, written by Jack Thorne, who did Adolescence. I’d never read Treasure Island. I’d never seen Treasure Island. I’d heard of Long John Silver, but I really didn’t know anything.”

Jackman added, “I just read the script, and I was like, ‘This is just genius.’ I believe it’s a slight reimagining — not as much as this Robin Hood — and I just rang Ridley, and I said, ‘I’m in.'”

The Deadpool & Wolverine star was cast in the new Treasure Island movie earlier this month. The project has Jack Thorne as the writer, who also serves as the executive producer. Scott and Michael Pruss are serving as the producers.

Treasure Island is described as the “brand-new take” on the classic novel, with its story focusing on a young boy who ends up finding a map to a legendary buried treasure. He then goes on a sea voyage to claim this treasure but gets stuck in a strange battle of wits with a pirate named Long John Silver.

The most recent film adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel was 2002’s Treasure Planet, an animated feature. Interestingly, a new Treasure Island TV series starring Hayley Atwell is currently in development.

Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island movie has yet to receive an official release date window.
