James Bond’s Next 007 Mission Gets Release Date, First Details Revealed

The next story in the James Bond universe has officially been revealed. The official release date and synopsis for author Charlie Higson’s upcoming 007 novel, titled “King Zero.” This comes ahead of Amazon MGM Studios’ highly anticipated James Bond movie from Dune director Denis Villeneuve, who is currently searching for the next actor to succeed Daniel Craig as the iconic spy.

What is the release date for the new James Bond project?

Per The Times of India, Higson’s first full-length James Bond novel, “King Zero,” will officially launch on September 24, 2026, from Penguin Books. The story will feature the legendary agent going up against a powerful villain unlike anything he has ever faced before. Before this, Higson previously wrote five novels in the Young Bond series, which followed a teenage Bond during his time at Eton College.

The novel’s official synopsis reads, “Le Chiffre. Dr No. Goldfinger. James Bond has faced them all. But now the world is changing, and even 007 has no idea what’s coming for him. It starts with a murdered agent in the Saudi desert. Only a traitor could have known enough to bring him down. But even James Bond can’t guess at the secret that was worth killing him to keep. As Bond follows the trail across the globe, he doesn’t realise the countdown has already begun. And hiding in the shadows is a man with more power than he could ever have imagined. Prepare for a villain unlike any before. Prepare for King Zero.”

Amazon MGM Studios’ untitled James Bond movie will be directed by Villeneuve, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay. The final castings are expected to be announced sometime this year, just in time for its rumored production start in 2027. Recently, it has been revealed that acclaimed casting director Nina Gold has been tapped to help the studio find the right actor who will become the next face of the franchise.
