Netflix Adds 1 of Adam Sandler’s Funniest Movies Today
Universal Pictures’ black comedy-drama movie starring Adam Sandler has finally found a new streaming home on Netflix. Following its debut, the 2009 film received a divisive reception from critics and moviegoers. It currently holds a 69% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its Popcornmeter score is significantly lower at 48%.

Beginning today, Sandler’s 2009 dark comedy movie Funny People is officially available to stream on Netflix. In the movie, Sandler played a popular stand-up comic who, after finding out that he’s terminally ill, decides to mentor an aspiring comedian. The ensemble cast also included Seth Rogen as Ira, Leslie Mann as Laura, Eric Bana as Clarke, Jonah Hill as Leo, Jason Schwartzman as Mark, Aubrey Plaza as Daisy, Aziz Ansari as Randy, and more.
“Recently learning that he has a fatal disease, comic George Simmons spots a struggling performer named Ira and decides to become his mentor. The men become close friends as George teaches Ira the art of stand-up comedy, and Ira helps George define his legacy. When an old flame reappears, and the disease goes into remission, George gets a chance to re-evaluate his life and figure out what is truly important to him,” reads the official synopsis.
Funny People was written, directed, and produced by Judd Apatow. During its theatrical run, the movie had a disappointing box office performance, grossing only $71 million against a budget of around $75 million. It was executive-produced by Rogen, Jack Giarraputo, and Evan Goldberg, with Barry Mendel and Clayton Townsend serving as producers.
