‘Baked Into Us’: Lord of the Rings’ Elijah Wood Talks Reprising Frodo Role in Hunt for Gollum

Elijah Wood has revealed his true emotions on returning as Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings franchise. The acclaimed actor will reprise the beloved role in Andy Serkis’ upcoming movie The Hunt for Gollum.

What did Elijah Wood say about Lord of the Rings and The Hunt for Gollum?

Elijah Wood recently sat down with ComingSoon’s Tyler Treese to discuss his new project based on the popular video game Among Us. An animated TV series featuring the game’s characters was announced last week during the Summer Game Fest. Wood is playing the character of Green in the show, which is currently streaming on Paramount+.

Besides the latest project, Wood also discussed the upcoming Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum. In the previous trilogy, between 2001 and 2003, and 2012’s prequel The Hobbit, the actor portrayed the protagonist Frodo.

When asked how it felt like returning to play Frodo once again in the blockbuster fantasy series, Wood revealed, “We’ll see [laughs]. I mean, I think there’s a part of him that’s definitely in me forever. You know, I went back to New Zealand last year for some camera test stuff and sort of got dressed up as Frodo for the first time for a very long time.”

He added, “There is a sort of muscle sense memory of just being in that environment and with those people and in that outfit with the wig and hair and everything. So there is a kind of baked-in my DNA sense memory of it.”

Although he’s been the main character in past installments, Wood believes that it’s important for him to make a revisit. “I’ll probably rewatch the first movie just to kind of get myself back in that space again.”

In a separate recent interview, Wood also shed light on his role‘s significance in The Hunt for Gollum. While avid fans may have hoped for Frodo to get more screen time, the actor said, “My part to play is relatively small, but I’m just excited to go back and spend some time in New Zealand and see old friends.”

Speaking more of the upcoming movie, its story will take place between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. The plot focuses on Gandalf and Aragorn as they try to defy time and Sauron in search of Gollum.

Besides Elijah Wood, the film will also see some new faces with Kate Winslet and Leo Woodall. Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will hit theaters on December 17, 2027.
