‘I Kill for Money’: Lobo Is Completely Unhinged in New Supergirl Teaser
A new teaser for Supergirl reveals Jason Momoa as the unhinged bounty hunter Lobo. The clip shows the character in violent action before his first live-action film appearance this June. Fans are already excited to see how the Game of Thrones actor takes on this role.
New Supergirl teaser spotlights Jason Momoa’s wild antihero, Lobo
DC Studios released the Lobo-focused promotional teaser on June 8, breaking from a pattern of teasers that largely repeated previously seen material. The new sequence showcases Momoa’s “Main Man” engaging multiple opponents while menacingly laughing. Then, he delivered a line that encapsulates the character’s twisted professional ethics: “I kill for money, not for sport.” It ends with him driving off a cliff edge without hesitation.
Such a depiction is not out of character for Lobo, making his big-screen debut in Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl, which carries a comic book history as dark as his demeanour suggests. Jason Momoa’s antihero originates from the planet Czarnia, where he stands as the sole survivor of his homeworld. The reason is stark: he destroyed the planet himself, unleashing mutant scorpion-like creatures on his own people. The comics record his motivation simply as personal amusement.
Now, Momoa’s transformation into the cigar-smoking mercenary required major physical preparation. The actor detailed the peculiar challenges of his first day filming action sequences aboard Lobo’s Spacehog vehicle. The custom bike, fitted with rockets, led to immediate practical difficulties.
“My first day of action was pretty funny,” Momoa told Pinkvilla. He explained the awkward positioning of the brakes on the right hand, a counterintuitive setup for an experienced rider. “There’s like a fireball up my a**, I have to go and then hit the brakes… It’s very clumsy, with rockets on it, so it can’t do the things you want it to do.”
The film stars Milly Alcock as both Supergirl and Kara Zor-El, working from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. Supergirl opens in cinemas on June 26.
