Spider-Man: Brand New Day Scrapped Idea Would Have Been Adorable
Spider-Man: Brand New Day almost featured an adorable plot point for Peter Parker before it was scrapped. The fourth MCU Spider-Man movie featuring Tom Holland as the fan-favorite superhero comes out next month.
What idea did Spider-Man: Brand New Day scrap?
It appears there was an idea developed in the early stages of making Spider-Man: Brand New Day that actually involved Peter Parker/Spider-Man having a cute dog. Unfortunately, this idea “fell through very quickly.” Tom Holland revealed this detail while recently speaking to Empire Magazine.
While the exact reason for ditching this plot point hasn’t been disclosed, it appears the makers knew that people would draw parallels with another recent superhero movie featuring a dog. In 2025’s DCU film Superman, David Corenswet’s character of Kal-El/Clark Kent also had a cute dog, Krypto. However, it’s only a theory right now for why Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have skipped this angle.
In Marvel Comics, Peter has had several dogs, although he did not maintain a long-term relationship with any of them. In Earth 616, he once found a street dog and gave him a sandwich to eat, thus earning his affection. He eventually named him Sandwich.
Peter tried to hide the dog from Aunt May, but she quickly found out. Later, the dog was sent to animal control, and the brief relationship between Peter and Sandwich abruptly ended.
Speaking more of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the movie is rumored to feature various other interesting angles. It’s been speculated that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will become Man-Spider. Then, there are rumors claiming that Sadie Sink’s character in the film might be none other than Jean Grey, the powerful X-Men member.
The movie also features Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Zendaya as MJ, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Michael Mando, Luke Gross, and Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III are also playing key roles.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases on July 31, 2026.
