Scary Movie 6 Rotten Tomatoes Score & Reviews Are Predictably Disappointing

The first reviews of Scary Movie 6 suggest fans are getting a disappointing comedy. The sixth entry in the long-running horror satire releases later this week.

At the time of writing, Scary Movie 6 has a 27% score on Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer with 30 reviews. The low score is largely in line with expectations surrounding the franchise. While that sounds bad, it’s not exactly bucking franchise tradition. The original Scary Movie is at 52%, Scary Movie 2 at 13%, Scary Movie 3 at 36%, and Scary Movie 4 at 34%. However, the lowest-rated entry in the franchise is its most recent, with Scary Movie 5 at 4%. Almost all Scary Movie entries have audience scores hovering above 50%.

ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim was lukewarm on the comedy, giving it a 6/10. “If you’re looking for a decent comedy movie, look no further than Scary Movie. It’s not the funniest in the series, nor is it the worst,” he said in his review.

While the Scary Movie franchise usually gets low review scores, it has also established a cult fanbase. All five films have collectively made over $897 million at the worldwide box office. The upcoming Scary Movie 6 has been confirmed to parody movies like Get Out, Sinners, Weapons, and more.

The film’s official synopsis reads, “Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (Ghostface), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (Shorty), Shawn Wayans (Ray), Anna Faris (Cindy), and Regina Hall (Brenda) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every final chapter that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.”

This year’s Scary Movie stars Anna Faris, Jon Abrahams, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Lochlyn Munro, and Shawn Wayans. The film is directed by Michael Tiddes from a screenplay by Rick Alvarez, Craig Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Shawn Wayans.

Scary Movie 6 releases in theaters on June 5, 2026.
