Avengers: Doomsday Will Give Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man a Shocking Role

Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man is shifting from comedic relief to a surprising role in Avengers: Doomsday. Rudd will reprise the role of Scott Lang three years after he was last seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

At the end of that film, Lang was shell-shocked by the impending arrival of the Council of Kangs. The new Avengers movie will reportedly touch on Kang, though its primary villain will be Victor von Doom.

What role will Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man have in Avengers: Doomsday?

Scott Lang has always been a funny hero in the MCU. That will change significantly in the upcoming Avengers movie. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the filmmakers are taking the character in a very different direction

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Feige said that Ant-Man is now going to be “more of an elder statesman now, dealing with other newer characters.” Ant-Man already played mentor to his daughter, who is also returning in Doomsday. Cassie Lang is also expected to feature in a Young Avengers project, if it ever becomes a reality.

Rudd recently sold Avengers: Doomsday tickets to fans for $100K without telling the studio. It’s likely that Rudd would have played an important role in the original version of the movie when it was called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. After all, Ant-Man played a key role in stopping Kang the Conqueror in Quantumania. The character also played a major role in saving the universe in Avengers: Endgame.

Doomsday will deal with the multiverse and time-travel, evidenced by Steve Rogers’ return. As such, Scott Lang’s expertise with pym particles and the quantum realm is bound to come in handy. Doomsday is also described by its directors as “phase zero” for the future of the MCU.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently slated to release in theaters on December 18, 2026. The film will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars the following year.
