Peacock To Get a Reacher Replacement Movie Next Month

Peacock will add an action-thriller film based on the popular Jack Reacher books to its catalog next week. Helmed by an Oscar-winning writer, this 2012 movie was the first adaptation of the books, long before Prime Video produced its hit show led by Alan Ritchson.

Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher to stream on Peacock next month

The Tom Cruise film will arrive in Peacock’s streaming library on Monday, June 1, 2026

Jack Reacher is based on Lee Child’s eponymous book series, specifically the ninth entry called One Shot. Christopher McQuarrie directed the film and wrote its screenplay. In addition to essaying the titular character, Cruise co-produced the movie alongside Don Granger, Paula Wagner, and Gary Levinsohn.

The supporting cast includes Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, Werner Herzog, Jai Courtney, Joseph Sikora, and David Oyelowo, among others.

Meanwhile, the story centers on Jack Reacher, a former military investigator, as he investigates a sniper accused of killing five random people. He gets drawn into the case after the suspect, James Barr, refuses to talk and asks the authorities to bring him in. Reacher soon starts working with defense attorney Helen Rodin, and the two uncover conspiracies and corruption that run deep within the system.

Notably, Jack Reacher has a very imposing physicality in the books. So, when the studio announced that Tom Cruise would be playing the titular role, fans of the book raised concerns, especially about the actor’s height. Given that the character in the books is 6 feet 5 inches tall, the Top Gun star is almost a foot shorter.

However, Lee Child was happy with the casting and even defended the decision in a 2011 interview with the BBC. He said, “It’s completely impossible to literally transfer the page to the screen. Ironically, to capture the feel of a book on the screen, you have to change almost everything about it.”

Jack Reacher opened in theaters on December 21, 2012, and quite instantly proved why Cruise was a great casting choice. Both critics and the audience highly praised the actor’s portrayal of the character. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently maintains a critics’ score of 64% and an audience score of 67%.

The film was also a massive commercial success. It grossed $218.3 million globally on a $60 million budget (via Box Office Mojo). A sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, was released in 2016.
