Spider-Man 4: Tom Holland Reveals Major Brand New Day Storyline Was His Idea
Leave it to Tom Holland to suggest what will surely be the weirdest storyline in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The first trailer for Brand New Day teased a whole bunch of new characters, storylines, and action sequences. However, what ended up catching everyone’s attention was the trailer’s focus on Peter Parker undergoing some form of metamorphosis. Now, Holland has revealed that his Marvel Cinematic Universe character will be going through “Spider-Puberty.”
Marvel fans have Tom Holland to thank for Spider-Puberty
Speaking with Empire, Holland revealed that Brand New Day marked “the first time in my tenure as Spider-Man that I was kind of welcomed into the writers’ room.” He shared that he and the producers would “meet once every two weeks to pitch ideas and discuss our ambitions and what we wanted to try and do.”
It turns out that Holland himself was the one to pitch the idea that Peter Parker’s powers are mutating in new and unusual ways. “My pitch when I came to the table with it was called ‘Spider-Puberty’,” the actor said. “What happens if Peter Parker is losing control and things are changing?”
While Holland wanted to make “Spider-Puberty” the official tagline of Brand New Day, Sony and Marvel Studios weren’t on board. However, “they liked the kernel of the idea, and it grew into what we have in the movie now,” said the actor.
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, “four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves,” the official synopsis reads.
“Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced,” concludes the synopsis.
Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo star alongside Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Destin Daniel Cretton directed the MCU blockbuster, which will arrive in theaters on July 31, 2026.
