Teen Titans DCU Movie Gets Major Update From James Gunn as Rumor Is Dispelled

A live-action Teen Titans movie is in the works and will be part of the DC Universe. There have not been many updates regarding the upcoming superhero movie; However, DC co-CEO James Gunn recently shot down a rumor about who might potentially direct Teen Titans.

The live-action Teen Titans movie was announced in 2024, with Ana Nogueira attached as the screenwriter. Nogueira wrote the script for Supergirl, which soars into theaters on June 26, 2026.

What is the Teen Titans movie rumor that James Gunn shut down?

Earlier this week, GeekNation wrote on social media that Sam Levinson is in negotiations to direct the Teen Titans movie for DC. Levinson is best known for creating, writing, and directing Euphoria, HBO’s hit drama starring Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney.

That so-called report found its way to Gunn, who dispelled the rumor on his Threads account.

“No it’s not true,” Gunn wrote on Threads. “Not talking to any directors quite yet. This ‘insider’ isn’t inside much.”

When another Threads user asked if the “not talking to any directors quite yet” line was about Titans or more DCU projects, Gunn said, “Not talking to any directors about Titans.”

So far, no casting or directorial announcements have been made regarding Teen Titans. Which aspect of a movie is the hardest to find: the cast, writer, or director? According to Gunn, casting the movie is much easier than finding the creatives behind the camera.

“Writers and directors are much harder than actors,” Gunn wrote on Threads. “Such a smaller pool to choose from.”

The Teen Titans were first introduced in DC comics during the 1960s. The original incarnation of the group featured Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Wonder Girl. Over the years, the group added Beast Boy, Raven, Starfire, and Cyborg. Gunn has not said which characters will be featured in the movie.

The most notable adaptations of the Teen Titans came on television. The animated Teen Titans show aired on Cartoon Network for five seasons from 2003 through 2006 and led to a made-for-TV movie. The other noteworthy show was Titans, a live-action superhero adventure that ran for two seasons on DC Universe (2018-2019) and two seasons on HBO Max (2021-2023).
