Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, & Gerard Butler Star in Netflix’s In the Hand of Dante Movie Trailer

Netflix has shared the official trailer for In the Hand of Dante. Following its world premiere at last year’s Venice International Film Festival, the star-studded drama movie is now set to arrive in theaters on June 12. Afterward, it will be available to stream on Netflix on June 24.

“The film follows the parallel lives of a New York author in the 21st century who embarks on a violent journey after he is recruited by a mafia don to steal Italian poet Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy written in the poet’s own hand, and Dante in the 14th century seeking inspiration to write his most important work – each man unknowingly connected through time and their obsessive quest for love, beauty, and the divine,” reads the official synopsis.

The video showcases the film’s all-star ensemble cast, led by Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac in the dual roles of New York writer Nick Tosches and the legendary poet Dante Alighieri. It features the story’s two alternating timelines, which will be told in black and white and color. The trailer teases Nick’s involvement with the mafia, who enlisted him to authenticate the original manuscript of Dante’s The Divine Comedy, which was smuggled out of the Vatican.

In the Hand of Dante also stars Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, John Malkovich, Louis Cancelmi, Sabrina Impacciatore, Franco Nero, Benjamin Clementine, Paolo Bonacelli, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, and Jason Momoa. Just like Isaac, some of the cast members are also playing two characters from the modern-day and historical timelines. Meanwhile, Scorsese will play the supporting role of Dante’s mentor, serving as the award-winning director’s first major acting credit in a long while.

The movie is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Julian Schnabel, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Louise Kugelberg. It was based on Tosches’s 2002 novel of the same name. Scorsese and Isaac are also set as executive producers. It is produced by Jon Kilik, Francesco Melzi d’Eril, Olmo Schnabel, Gabriele Bebe Moratti, Vito Schnabel, and Schnabel.
