Supergirl MPA Rating Revealed, DCU Movie Contains ‘Strong Violence’

The official MPA rating for Supergirl has been revealed. Following Superman, the Girl of Steel will be punching enough enemies for parents to accompany their kids to theaters.

What is the MPA rating for Supergirl?

The official MPA rating for Supergirl is PG-13. However, the rating description does note that the movie contains “strong violence,” which may excite some fans. It is also rated PG-13 for “action, language, and smoking.”

Supergirl is the second DCU entry to be rated PG-13. The DC Universe has already started to explore mature themes and adult humor with projects like Peacemaker, Clayface, and Lanterns. The third film in the franchise, Clayface, is expected to be rated R, following James Gunn’s comments.

Recent footage from Supergirl has started to show off its impressive action set pieces. Kara is supposed to be a more hardened character, as Gunn explained when announcing the project. While Supergirl can hit hard, it looks like its level of violence won’t supersede that of Superman.

Supergirl will adapt Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow graphic novel. The story follows Kara Zor-El on an intergalactic adventure, exploring her darker demons after experiencing the collapse of Krypton. She is joined by Krypto, Ruthye, and Jason Momoa’s Lobo.

Following her spin-off, Kara will seemingly head back to Earth to join her cousin in Man of Tomorrow, which is currently filming. The Superman sequel will see the Man of Steel face off against Brainiac.

The film stars Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll.

Supergirl is directed by Craig Gillespie, from a screenplay written by Ana Nogueira. DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran recently stated that the film will prove that superhero fatigue is a myth, although some creative choices from the film are already dividing fans.

Supergirl releases in theaters on June 26, 2026.
