Best Tomb Raider Movie Arrives on HBO Max Today
The highest-rated Tomb Raider from Warner Bros. Pictures has finally found a new streaming home in HBO Max. The action-adventure movie currently holds a 52% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is significantly higher than the popular franchise’s other two installments.
What Tomb Raider movie is now on HBO Max?
As of today, 2018’s Alicia Vikander-led Tomb Raider movie is now officially available to stream on HBO Max. It served as a reboot of Paramount Pictures’ 2001 and 2003 film adaptations of the popular video game series, which were led by Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. The reboot also starred Dominic West as Lord Richard Croft, Walton Goggins as Mathias Vogel, Daniel Wu as Lu Ren, Hannah John-Kamen as Sophie, Kristin Scott Thomas as Ana Miller, Nick Frost as Alan, and more.
“Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished years earlier. Hoping to solve the mystery of her father’s disappearance, Croft embarks on a perilous journey to his last-known destination – a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. The stakes couldn’t be higher as Lara must rely on her sharp mind, blind faith, and stubborn spirit to venture into the unknown,” reads the official synopsis.
The 2018 film was directed by Roar Uthaug, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons writing the screenplay. During its theatrical run, it only grossed around $275 million at the box office. At the moment, Amazon MGM Studios and Legendary Television are producing the first live-action series adaptation of Tomb Raider, with Game of Thrones vet Sophie Turner taking on the mantle of Lara Croft. Production on the Prime Video show is currently underway in the UK.
