Adam Driver & Penelope Cruz’s Racing Movie Drives onto Netflix Today
Netflix expands its library with the addition of Neon’s racing drama film about a popular luxury car brand. Beginning today, 2023’s sports biographical movie Ferrari, starring Academy Award nominee Adam Driver and Academy Award winner Penélope Cruz, is finally available to stream on Netflix.
What do we know about Adam Driver & Penelope Cruz’s Ferrari movie?
Ferrari was directed by Michael Mann, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Troy Kennedy Martin. In the film, Driver played the legendary Italian entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari, while Cruz portrayed Enzo’s wife Laura. The all-star cast also included Shailene Woodley, Gabriel Leone, Sarah Gadon, Jack O’Connell, Patrick Dempsey, Lino Musella, Ben Collins, and more. It was based on journalist Brock Yates’ 1991 book, “Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races.”
During its theatrical run in 2023, the film had a poor box office performance worldwide, grossing only over $43 million against a reported budget of around $95 million. Despite this, it still managed to score positive reviews from critics. The movie currently has a 73% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“It’s the summer of 1957. Ex-racecar driver, Enzo Ferrari, is in crisis,” reads the synopsis. “All the dramatic forces of his life – as volatile as the red race cars he builds – are in collision. Bankruptcy stalks the company he and his wife, Laura, built from nothing ten years earlier. Their tempestuous marriage struggles with the mourning for one son and the acknowledgement of another. The passionate instigator of men inspires his Spring Team of drivers, some like surrogate sons. He blunts a hostile press with strafing wit and boldly strategizes to roll the dice on one race — 1,000 miles across Italy, the infamous Mille Miglia. As the red cars slam through towns and mountain passes towards unpredictable outcomes, the future of these vivid characters’ lives is being written.”
