Zendaya Says Spider-Man 4 Return With Tom Holland Was ‘A Family Affair’

Zendaya recently revealed what it was like working with her fiancé, Tom Holland, on Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day. In an interview, she described the experience as “a family affair.” Notably, in addition to the upcoming summer MCU film, the pair is appearing in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which launches about a week earlier in theaters.

Zendaya enjoyed returning to the MCU Spider-Man film series as MJ in Brand New Day alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

In a recent in-depth conversation with Elle about her career, the Euphoria star said that filming Spider-Man 4 was a “dream.” She added, “I get to go to work every day with my best friend, the person that I love. We bring our dogs to work; it’s like a family affair. We grew up on those movies! It’s like coming home.”

The 29-year-old also recalled watching Holland on the set of The Odyssey, where they did not share any scenes together, and being impressed by his performance. “I could have cried, I was so proud,” she stated.

In the film, Zendaya plays Athena, the Greek goddess of war and wisdom who guides and protects Odysseus (Matt Damon) on his long journey back home following the Trojan War. Meanwhile, Holland essays Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, who leaves home to learn about his father’s whereabouts.

The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are not the only major projects on the actress’s slate for the current year. She previously appeared in The Drama, starring opposite Robert Pattinson, who is also appearing in the former film, playing Antinous, one of Penelope’s (Anne Hathaway) suitors. The Emmy winner is also showing up in Dune: Part Three later this year, reprising her role as Paul Atreides’ (Timothée Chalamet) former love, Chani.

Brand New Day swings into theaters in the United States on July 31, 2026, while The Odyssey sets sail earlier on July 17. The former also features Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal — also in the latter as Menelaus — and Mark Ruffalo, in addition to Zendaya and Holland.
