Resident Evil Gets 2 New Posters & Footage as Zach Cregger Stresses on Horror

Sony has dropped two new Resident Evil posters and a new teaser. Director Zach Cregger is making it clear this reboot is about horror, not action. With Cregger fresh off the success of Barbarian and Weapons, anticipation for his take on the beloved franchise is running high, and these latest materials suggest he’s delivering something that honors the games’ roots.

The two new Resident Evil posters, shared on the franchise’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, are atmospheric and unsettling. The first shows a car on a dark forest road confronting what appears to be an infected woman.

Additionally, the vehicle’s headlights and red taillights cleverly form a subtle Umbrella Corporation logo. The second poster takes a behind-the-back view of lead character Bryan (Austin Abrams) walking into a snow-blanketed Raccoon City, echoing scenes from the debut trailer.

Alongside the Resident Evil posters, a new tease with Zach Cregger gave fans their best look yet at his vision. He calls Resident Evil “the flagship” of survival horror and is emphatic that his film isn’t an action movie. Instead, he’s chasing the dread and tension that defined the original games, aka the overwhelming sense that something terrible lies ahead, and there’s no option but to keep moving.

Cregger described the feeling as walking down a long dark passageway armed with only two shotgun shells, knowing there’s a lot of bad waiting at the end. He also revealed he developed a story imagining what would happen if someone like him — someone who jokes he’s terrible with guns and would miss nearly every shot — actually got dropped into the game’s world.

That philosophy lines up with what Sony has revealed about Bryan: “a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.”

The Resident Evil, co-written by Cregger and Shay Hatten, stars Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser. It releases in theaters on September 18, 2026.
