The Odyssey Runtime Possibly Revealed for 1 of Christopher Nolan’s Longest Movies

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey may be about a long journey home, but audiences will need to settle in for quite the voyage themselves. Multiple ticketing platforms briefly leaked the film’s runtime before scrubbing the information entirely.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey appears to run just under three hours, based on multiple leaked listings. AMC Theatres briefly posted the film’s runtime at 2 hours and 52 minutes before scrubbing the information. IGN reports that IMAX also listed and then deleted a slightly different figure of 2 hours and 53 minutes.

The slight discrepancy between the two listings remains unexplained. However, Australian theatre chain Hoyts currently lists The Odyssey at 177 minutes, which translates to roughly 2 hours and 57 minutes. That figure could account for credits or pre-roll content not included in the other estimates.

Regardless of which runtime proves accurate, The Odyssey will rank as Nolan’s second-longest film. Oppenheimer still holds the top spot at exactly 3 hours. Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises trail behind at 2 hours 49 minutes and 2 hours 45 minutes, respectively.

Nolan has historically kept his films at or under 3 hours due to IMAX film platter limitations. The physical reels cannot hold footage beyond that threshold without modification. Nolan worked with IMAX to extend the platters for Oppenheimer, and The Odyssey will push close to that boundary again.

The director has confirmed the film runs shorter than Oppenheimer. Producer Emma Thomas also previously told Deadline the runtime falls under 3 hours. Nolan described The Odyssey as “an epic film, as the subject matter demands” during a recent press appearance.

The Odyssey carries an estimated budget of $250 million, making it the most expensive Nolan production to date. The film features Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron among its ensemble cast.

Universal Pictures will release The Odyssey in theatres on July 17, 2026.
