$350 Million Alien Movie Arrives on Hulu Today
20th Century Studios’ second-highest-grossing installment in the Alien franchise has officially found a new streaming home. This comes nearly two years after it was first released in theaters. Beginning today, Alien: Romulus, starring Golden Globe nominee Cailee Spaeny and The Last of Us’ Isabela Merced, is finally available to stream on Hulu.
What do we know about Alien: Romulus?
“This truly terrifying sci-fi horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful Alien franchise back to its iconic roots,” reads the synopsis. “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young colonizers comes face-to-face with the most relentless and deadly life form in the universe.”
Alien: Romulus was directed and executive produced by Fede Álvarez from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues. The film has a Certified Fresh score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the third-highest-rated installment of the film franchise. The 2024 film is also currently the second-highest-grossing installment, having earned $350 million at the box office during its initial theatrical run. The ensemble cast also included David Jonsson (Industry, Rye Lane) as Andy, Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone) as Tyler, Spike Fearn (Tell Me Everything) as Bjorn, and Aileen Wu as Navarro.
The movie was produced by franchise creator Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, and Walter Hill. Executive producers were Tom Moran, Elizabeth Cantillon, and Brent O’Connor. The creative team consisted of director of photography Galo Olivares, editor Jake Roberts, composer Benjamin Wallfisch, production designer Naaman Marshall, and costume designer Carlos Rosario. Previous reports suggested that the studio has started early development on a new sequel, with Álvarez writing the script. At the moment, the studio hasn’t shared any official updates about it. In the meantime, Alien fans will also get another season of FX’s Alien: Earth, which is expected to begin filming soon.
