Jimmy Kimmel continues his fake feud with Matt Damon

Recently, on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the veteran TV host joked about the Bourne Ultimatum star’s upcoming film.

Towards the end of his monologue, Jimmy Kimmel quipped that if fans were going to be upset about Christopher Nolan’s casting choices for The Odyssey, they should direct their frustration at his pick for the lead role of Odysseus, Matt Damon, whom he hilariously referred to as a “loser.”

Before this, Jimmy Kimmel addressed Elon Musk’s frustration with the filmmaker about his casting choices for the action-adventure epic, especially Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy. He added that the Tesla CEO wasn’t alone in his criticism, as Rob Finnerty of Newsmax also devoted a whole news segment to airing his grievance.

Moreover, the comedian poked fun at Finnerty’s complaint that Nolan was “rewriting history” through the casting. He pointed out that Helen wasn’t a real person since Homer’s epic was a mythical poem.

Also, Kimmel joked that if fans disapproved of Nyong’o’s casting, they would be upset about who Nolan cast as Odysseus’ “sidekick.” He then played a hilariously edited clip. It features his own sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez, dressed in armor, inserted into the film. A later bit showed the Mexican comedian seeing the Cyclops Polyphemus and exclaiming, “Holy s—, it’s the Chupacabra.”

Meanwhile, The Odyssey premieres on July 17, 2026. In addition to directing, Christopher Nolan wrote the screenplay. He also co-produced with his wife and producing partner, Emma Thomas, via Syncopy. Universal Pictures co-produced and will distribute the film in theaters.

Apart from Matt Damon and Lupita Nyong’o, the latter of whom also plays Clytemnestra, the film stars Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson. Additional cast members include Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee, Elliot Page, and Mia Goth.
