After Spider-Man 4, Jon Bernthal Will Return as Punisher Only on 1 Condition
Jon Bernthal recently addressed his MCU future as Punisher post Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor expressed interest in reprising the role in more projects. However, he said he would only do so on one condition.

Bernthal said he is willing to appear in more MCU projects as Punisher after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, provided he has creative control.
“I’m really down to keep doing more,” The Walking Dead star told Esquire, while discussing The Punisher: One Last Kill. “But I think I have to be the one that’s making it.”
Notably, the actor not only starred in the special but also co-wrote it with the director Reinaldo Marcus Green, in addition to executive producing.
Meanwhile, while interacting with Screen Rant, Bernthal, without diving into specifics, said that the special laid the groundwork for a different version of Frank Castle, whom fans would see fight with a personal sense of purpose.
“I do think that there are ways now, after this special, that we can find him in a place where I’m not going to tip off what’s coming, but what I will say is, I think you’re going to get a version of him going after the bad guys, going after the people that are causing harm and havoc to good people,” he explained. “I think he’s going to be able to start personalizing that. And with Frank, when he personalizes something, it’s something to deal with.”
Recently, reputed industry insider Daniel Richtman reported that Marvel was developing a follow-up to One Last Kill. However, there is no official confirmation from the studio regarding this as of writing.
The Punisher: One Last Kill is currently streaming on Disney+. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will mark Frank Castle’s big screen debut, swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
Concrete details about Castle’s relationship with the webslinger are currently unclear. However, as briefly teased in the trailer, they will have a tense dynamic due to their distinct personalities.
