Obsession 2 or TV Spin-off Could Happen Despite ‘Plot Hole,’ Says Director

Horror movie Obsession may get a sequel or a spin-off TV series in the future. Its director has teased an exciting expansion update.

Curry Barker wants to make Obsession 2 or an anthology spin-off series

Curry Barker‘s directorial debut, Obsession, is currently playing in theaters. The horror movie features Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette in key roles.

After its big screen debut, the movie has received an amazing response at the box office, motivating Barker to make Obsession 2 or a spin-off. Made on a production budget of just $1 million, Obsession released in the U.S. on May 15, 2026, and collected $16 million in its opening weekend. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds an impressive 95% Tomatometer score and 94% Popcornmeter score.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Barker expressed his willingness to make an Obsession 2 despite the film having “kind of a plot hole.” He explained, “It’s something I don’t like to think about too much, because it totally doesn’t make sense that there’s a world of people just making wishes.” He added, “It really doesn’t make any sense at all.”

Despite this, he is still interested in expanding the horror movie. “I obviously have a couple more things that I’m excited about next, but I do see Obsession 2, maybe.”

Moreover, he teased an idea for a TV spin-off, saying, “what really is exciting to me is maybe an anthology, like a one-hour episode. Each episode is a different wish that goes completely off the rails. Maybe I’ll direct the pilot with the same DP, and you could invite other filmmakers to kind of give their spin at it. That would be really cool.”

The official synopsis for Obsession reads, “After breaking the mysterious One Wish Willow to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.”

Before the latest movie made him a known filmmaker, Barker also worked on a 2024 found-footage horror film, Milk & Serial. He initially released it for free on YouTube.
