Guy Ritchie wants to return for Sherlock Holmes 3 with Robert Downey Jr.
According to Collider, Guy Ritchie discussed a possible return for Sherlock Holmes 3 with Robert Downey Jr. Ritchie said scheduling remains the main obstacle for another Sherlock Holmes film. He stated, “I adore Downey, and I adored making those two movies… I think it’s just honestly a question of just aligning our schedules.” The director added, “I know the appetite for it’s there, but the appetite for it from our side is there, too.”
Ritchie addressed continued interest in the Sherlock Holmes franchise during discussions about In the Grey. Prime Video recently expanded the franchise with Young Sherlock. He explained, “We’d love to make that happen. I just don’t know how it’s going to happen. It’s amazing that it hasn’t happened.” The director previously made Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with Downey and Jude Law.
Meanwhile, Ritchie also discussed the delayed sequel to RocknRolla. He confirmed that administrative complications continue blocking another installment. Ritchie said, “That’s just caught up in a world of administrative, boring quagmire of nonsense.” He also confirmed that several unused ideas later appeared in The Gentlemen. Additionally, Ritchie described In the Grey as a world driven by direct consequences and survival.
Furthermore, Ritchie explained that intelligent characters shape In the Grey. He said consequences immediately follow mistakes within that criminal environment. Ritchie stated, “If you get things wrong, you die, or you get incarcerated… Only the strong survive, or only the smart survive within this world.” The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza González, and Henry Cavill.
The director then went on to confirm that Viva la Madness recently completed filming with Jason Statham. He said production followed more than 10 years of development attempts. Ritchie said, “Jason and I have been trying to make that for about 10 years or more,” adding that the project recently entered the editing process.
In the Grey, released on May 15, 2026, is currently playing in theaters.
