Matt Reeves Reveals The Batman 2 Cast in the Most Unique Way

Matt Reeves turned his own movie into a casting announcement for The Batman – Part 2. The director matched each returning star with their most memorable scene from the first film on X.

Matt Reeves continued rolling out The Batman – Part 2 cast announcements on X on May 14. The filmmaker shared GIFs from the first installment alongside personalized welcome messages for each returning star. Each post used a distinct phrase to tease the actor’s comeback to the DC sequel.

Reeves kicked off the day by posting “We meet again, my friend” for Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. He then followed with “Here we go again, my friend” for Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon. The director wrote “Are you ready, my friend…?” for Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth shortly after.

Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb received “Round two, my friend…?” from Reeves on X. Jayme Lawson’s Bella Real got a “Welcome back to the fight, my friend” post next. Gil Perez-Abraham’s Officer Martinez rounded out the batch with “Hey! Mr. Martinez!” as the final reveal.

Reeves then teased that more announcements would arrive on Thursday, May 15, by posting “More… tomorrow…” on X. Sebastian Stan has already been confirmed for the sequel after speaking publicly about joining the franchise. Scarlett Johansson and Charles Dance could also potentially be among the upcoming new casting reveals.

Reeves first previewed The Batman – Part 2 on May 7 with a Batmobile production test. Additionally, that update confirmed the 2027 entry will take place during the winter season. The sequel will begin filming in June with Mattson Tomlin co-writing the script alongside Reeves.

Meanwhile, The Batman – Part 2 will exist under DC Studios’ Elseworlds banner, separate from James Gunn’s DC Universe. Warner Bros. has officially set the sequel to open on October 1, 2027. Reeves’ promise of more reveals tomorrow could bring the first look at new additions to the franchise.
