Slow Horses Star Joins Bill Burr’s Coming-Of-Age Comedy Cast
Bill Burr‘s upcoming comedy continues to expand its cast with a new report revealing that a Slow Horses star has boarded the project. Reportedly taking its inspiration from other notable comedies for its storyline and setting, the movie will begin production within the next few months. Notably, the film and Burr’s involvement in it were announced late last year.
Bill Burr’s Bender adds Ruth Bradley to cast
Slow Horses star Ruth Bradley has been added to the cast of the comedy film Bender, as per Deadline. She joins previously announced members Chris O’Dowd and Bill Burr. Production will start in Ireland in the summer.
Adrian Cunningham co-wrote the screenplay with Ciaran Bartlett. Meanwhile, Pluribus’ Adam Bernstein has been tapped to direct. Lesley Ann-Brandt (The Mal Picture Company), whose credits include Lucifer and Presumed Innocent, is producing with Craig Verdon, Stephen McCormack (Reflektor Media), and Cunningham (Martello Films). Additionally, Burr will serve as an executive producer.
In an Instagram post highlighting her casting, Brandt revealed she is a “huge Slow Horses fan.”
The film’s story, described as a combination of Superbad and Derry Girls, is influenced by Cunningham’s experiences in late ‘70s, post-punk Dublin. Taking place during a bleak economic recession, it follows a suburban Dublin family handling growing financial pressures amid an approaching papal visit.
Bradley is playing a “sharp-tongued, no-nonsense matriarch.” She is focused on keeping her family united and tackling neighborhood gossip. Meanwhile, her husband, Tom, whom Chris O’Dowd will play, deals with unemployment and “wounded pride.”
Burr assumes the role of a “gruff American record store owner.” He convinces a “ragtag gang of teenage misfits” that their only possible and optimal chance to lose their virginity before high school graduation is at a massive open-air mass for the visiting Pope.
Aside from Slow Horses, Bradley has garnered recognition for her roles in Primeval, Love/Hate, and Ted Lasso.
Additionally, she has been a three-time winner at the Irish Film and Television Awards. She won Best Supporting Actress in Television for Stardust, Best Film Actress for Grabbers, and Best Lead Actress – Drama for Rebellion.
