A 2006 sports film starring Sylvester Stallone is joining Netflix’s content library next month. The movie is part of an iconic franchise, and its monumental success has led to a spin-off trilogy, as well as a show that is in the works.
Rocky Balboa streams on Netflix in June
Rocky Balboa will become available to stream on Netflix from Monday, June 1, 2026.
Sylvester Stallone wrote, directed, and starred in the film as the titular character. It was the sixth and final entry in the Rocky franchise that began in 1976. It was later followed by a spin-off and sequel series, Creed, starring Michael B. Jordan. The entire Creed trilogy is also arriving on Netflix the same day.
Rocky Balboa’s story takes place 16 years after the events of Rocky V, in which the titular hero has retired from boxing and is nearly 60. He runs a small Italian restaurant called Adrian, named after his late wife, who died from cancer. He eventually returns to the ring for an exhibition bout against heavyweight champion Mason Dixon.
The cast also includes Burt Young as Paulie, Antonio Tarver as Mason, Milo Ventimiglia as Robert, Geraldine Hughes as Marie, and Henry G. Sanders as Martin, among others.
MGM Distribution Co. distributed the film in the United States and Canada, while 20th Century Fox handled its international release. Rocky Balboa premiered in the United States on December 20, 2006, and became a commercial and critical success.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has a critics’ approval rating of 78% and a user’s rating of 77%. Meanwhile, Metacritic reports a weighted average critics’ score of 63 and a user score of 7.7. Commercially, it earned over $156.2 million worldwide, against a reported budget of $24 million. In 2024, Stallone returned to edit Rocky Balboa for its Ultimate Director’s Cut, adding 14 minutes of additional scenes.
Creed 4 is reportedly in development, along with its own spin-off series.
