Donald Gibb passes away due to long-term health issues

Donald Gibb, known for portraying the hulking fraternity brother Ogre in the Revenge of the Nerds film series, has died at the age of 71 following long-term health complications. He was also recognized for playing Kumite fighter Ray Jackson in Bloodsport and Leslie “Dr. Death” Krunchner on the HBO sitcom 1st & Ten.

Gibb’s son, Travis, told TMZ that the actor died surrounded by family, including his children, at his home in Texas.

Gibb was born in New York City and raised in California. He attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. He later attended the University of New Mexico on a basketball scholarship before transferring to the University of San Diego, where he played football on scholarship.

Following an automobile accident that ended his sports career, Gibb turned to acting. Some of his earliest roles came in films like Stripes and Conan the Barbarian.

Those performances led to Revenge of the Nerds (1984), in which he portrayed Ogre, a campus bully known for his imposing physique. The role became a cult favorite, and Gibb reprised the character multiple times.

Gibb also appeared in Lost in America (1985), U.S. Marshals (1998), and Hancock (2008), among other projects.

Travis wrote that his father “loved the Lord and his family, friends and fans with all his heart.” He also requested prayers and privacy for the family.

Gibb’s death comes months after the passing of his Revenge of the Nerds co-star Robert Carradine.
