Sigourney Weaver does the best Grogu impression
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sigourney Weaver performed a Grogu impression after studying the character for years. The host asked her if Baby Yoda is as cute as he looks. Weaver said, “I have sat next to Grogu now, a number of times, and he is so real, and he is irresistible.”
The Gorillas in the Mist star also shared that she offered to the director Jon Favreau to do the soundtrack for Grogu. As such, she does a pitch-perfect voice impression for the character, followed by apt facial expressions. This left Fallon surprised, and he told Weaver, “You can be the voice of Grogu.”
Meanwhile, the 76-year-old also shared her experience working on the film on Good Morning America. Weaver said, “It was a surprise when [director Jon Favreau] invited to play a colonel who [would have been a part of the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War].”
The Oscar-nominated expressed how she made the most out of her limited role. She stated, “I got to work opposite [Pedro Pascal] and Grogu, and work with Jon Favreau – it was a pretty awesome job.” Weaver revealed that she requested to work with Grogu, which led to a challenge of acting with a puppet. She explained, “I had already gotten the job – I was in costume design, and they brought Grogu to say hello to me.”
The veteran continued, “Grogu has five puppeteers that you never see, so you just think he’s alive – they each do a different thing. I need only four to do what I do.” Weaver added, “But anyway, I fell in love, and when we shot the movie, [the team] made sure that Grogu stayed alive.”
The Mandalorian and Grogu will be out in theaters on May 22, 2026.
