Jet Li Remembers DMX 5 Years After Rapper’s Death: ‘A Very Cool Guy’
Jet Li has recalled his time with DMX amid the release of his new book. The rapper tragically passed away on April 9, 2021. In his latest interview, the martial artist and actor shared his experience of working with DMX.
Jet Li talks about working with DMX on Romeo Must Die and Cradle 2 the Grave
In his interview with PEOPLE, Jet Li opened up on working with DMX on Romeo Must Die and Cradle 2 the Grave. Talking about Romeo Must Die, Li explained how it was fun bonding with every co-star. “Everybody in the film loved each other,” he said. The award-winning actor continued, “Aaliyah was very charming and pretty. With Anthony Anderson and DMX, we’d all work together, and it’s a very strong memory in my heart.”
Li further sang praises of the “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” hitmaker. “He was a very cool guy. His style, he really had something,” the 63-year-old actor said. Li also mentioned how DMX liked moving “to his own world” on the sets of both the movies. “We would be working, and DMX was on the side. I’d look at him, and he was playing a video game,” he stated.
Li further explained how “Everybody would say, ‘Wait, we need to go to work.” On the other hand, DMX would say, “Wait a minute, I need to finish with this [car game]. Moreover, Li appreciated how the rapper was “like a boy, living in his own world.” He added, “He was very unique.”
Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, was a well-known rapper and actor. He delivered numerous hit songs and appeared in commercially successful films. In Romeo Must Die, he played the role of “Silk”. On the other hand, Cradle 2 the Grave saw him in the character of Anthony Fait. DMX was dealing with health issues and eventually passed away on April 9, 2021, at the age of 50, due to a heart attack.
