Superman’s James Gunn gives update on Man of Tomorrow’s filming
James Gunn recently gave an update on the filming of the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.
A fan on Threads asked Gunn under one of his posts, “How’s filming going for Man of Tomorrow?” In his reply, the director said, “Beautifully and unstintingly.” It was revealed in April that filming for Man of Tomorrow had begun. Gunn made the announcement by sharing a photo on his Instagram of a chessboard and a Van Kull Prison badge with “A Luthor” written on it.
Man of Tomorrow is set to release in theaters on July 9, 2027. Alongside David Corenswet returning as Superman, the movie’s cast includes Rachel Brosnahan, Matthew Lillard, Nicholas Hoult, Lars Eidinger, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, and more. Recently, Adria Arjona also joined the film’s cast.
Adria Arjona’s role in the film is still being kept under wraps, as is Matthew Lillard’s. However, fans have speculated that Arjona may be joining Gunn’s DCU as the franchise’s new Wonder Woman, though it was reported by several outlets that she will be playing the role of Maxima in the sequel. It’s also been speculated that Lillard could be playing one of a number of different DC characters or could even reprise his iconic role as Shaggy from the Scooby-Doo movies that were written by Gunn.
David Corenswet will next appear as Superman in the upcoming film Supergirl, alongside Milly Alcock in the title role, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
